    Specific Heat Questions.
    The question is...
    A piece of unknown metal with mass 14.9g is heated to 100.0 C and dropped into 75.0 g of water at 20.0. The final temperature of the system is 28.5 C. The final temp. of the system is 28.5 C. What is the s pecific heat of the metal...

    I understand that you use the formula

    Mass x Change in temp. x Specific Heat = Mass x Change in temp. x Specific Heat

    but I don't get why they give you the final temperature..?

    If you don't have the final temp, how do you work out the temp changes?

    when you use the equation Q = MCT, the T is delta. Delta, meaning the difference in temperatures. In most cases.. it's used (T-final - T-intial). You have to be familiar with
    the MCT=Q=MCT equation for you to do this.

    specific heat = mass/change in temp = sh = 14.9/71.5 = .208
