I saw a film a couple years ago and can't remember what the title was for the life of me. It's a 2000's film. The plot went *something* like this:

In the years following WW2, an elderly man adopts and helps raise a young boy. He teaches the boy to keep a diary. The first part of the movie is about their life together; after the boy's guardian dies, the film flashes forward 15 years. The boy is now a man, about 30-ish, who grows up to be essentially a single, intelligent, introspective loner who's continue to maintain his diary, something prevalent throughout the film (which is about this man's quest to find love). He meets an attractive blond at a convenient store, and the two begin a romantic relationship and soon get married. The marriage fails, however, as the man's wife reads in her husband's diary that he secretly despises her. He then meets an attractive brunette and falls in love with her. She reads in his diary that she fulfills him, and falls in love with him all over. That's all I remember! Thanks in advance!
