Why is my cat Gizmo acting like a female?
My cat gizmo is a male but he is acting like a female cat. He hasn't started spraying our apartment yet which is good because we don't have him fixed yet. But three days ago he started caterwauling and my husband and I do not know why he is doing this. He start doing the mating position yesterday and today. We've tried everything from spray bottles to taking him outside on a collar and leash. But he continues to do it. PLEASE HELP US I don't know what else to do.

Get him neutered. How old is he?

The behavior might continue for a period following neutering.

What you have to do is get him fixed. NOW!! He is has reached sexual maturity and will soon be spraying nasty smelling urine all over your house. He can smell female cats in heat, so by taking him outdoors you are only making things worse. And if he begins to spray, please don't punish him or dump him. It's not his fault.

Then contact your local animal shelter to find out the name of a vet who will do a low-cost neutering. For male cats it's pretty cheap anyway. I'm not yelling at you, but am worried about the poor cat. No one should have a pet if they can't afford shots and neutering and vet care if the animal gets sick.

So what does your abuse have to do with anything? No one is yelling at you and if you can't afford a pet, don't have a pet. Your abuse does not allow you to abuse your cat - and that's what you are doing. I do notice you went from not having enough time to get him neutered to not being able to afford it.

Either find a no cost or no cost neuter/spay center OR find a new family that will care for him.

Or you could always cancel your Internet subscription and use that money toward the care of your cat.

He's your second child? I feel sorry for your first child - he's a pet. I love my dogs. I treat them like children. They are not my children.
