Married a German, now he wants me? How to divorce?
Ok, so Im looking for help. I am dating a man that was foolish and fell in love while he was in the army almost 20 years ago. He married a German girl. They got married in the United States. She never moved back here with him when his tour was over and they have been apart ever since. Marriage on paper only, but he keeps getting different answers as to what it would take to get a divorce. We are seriously wanting to get married, but this obviously has to be taken care of first. Anyone who has had similar situations, anything you can tell me would be great!

A few more details. He doesn't know how to contact her in Germany, no address nothing. They have no children together.

Is this considered international divorce? Or can we just deal w it in the US? TIA anyone!!

I had a friend that wanted to get divorced but could find the man! So the laywer told her to post an ad in the news paper where she lived under legal notices, stated she was filing for divorce and said something like you have 30 days to contact or something, after the 30 days she filed for divorce he wasn't served because they couldn't find him but she got her divorce. Talk to a lawyer they may have him do the same thing?

Yes, the above advice is good. They were married in the US so their divorce can take place in the US. All he has to do is get a lawyer, file for divorce, make an honest attempt to locate her, place an ad in local papers, and if she doesn't respond the divorce will end up being granted. Why did he wait so long? Why hasn't he hired an attorney previously?

Stop getting a lot of free advice and go hire a divorce attorney that will file for divorce for you in your court.
