    Passing kidney stones for l year is this normal
    I had surgery for two kidney stones ll months ago. I am still passing out small black fragments. Is this normal?

    No, normal urine doesn't contain any black fragments. This is a great deal of time for you to still be passing the stones from 11 months ago, too. You need to consult with your physician.
    In the meantime, it would be wise to increase your oral fluid intake to at least 2 gallons (2000 mL) daily and strain all urine passed through a coffee filter so these particles can be examinined. Sometimes blood appears as black particles. Keep an ongoing diary of any pain, bloody urine, or other abnormality; strain some of these particles for examination, and see a physician. Kidney stones can cause complications which are serious.
