Custody of my 11 year old sister
Hello. My name is Jennifer. I am 24 years old. I have been married for 5 years and have two sons. I am a full-time student majoring is Accounting and my husband and I own our own business. My mom passed away 6 years ago, when my little sister was 6 years old. Since my mom passed away, I have been a big part of my little sisters life. Nothing has change in my childhood home since my mom died. The only difference is that it is just another women. The other women is my half sisters fathers girlfriend. The house is extremely dirty and infested with roaches and rats. There is a lot of drug activity in the home such as crack/cocain, majaurannia, & pills. A little over a year after my mom passed my sister came to live with me for 1 year. My sisters father gave me guardianship of her. At this point in time her father was bad off on drugs. Then my sisters father came to the conclusion that he wanted his daughter back. Ever since then she comes to my house EVERY weekend & EVERY holiday! He does not even call to check on her well being. Now that she maturing she is speaking her mind. She no longer wants to live with her father. She has been putting up a fight when it is time for her to go home. She does not want to go home, she wants to live with me, BUT what can I do? I fear he is going to stop letting me see her altogether. In my mind she is my daughter. When my mom passed I made her one promise... "That I will always watch over my babygirl!" What can I do? Is there even anything that I can do? Please help. Any kind of support is welcome.

    Thank You,

    Emotionally Torn

Good people seem far and few. Your "little Girl" does need your support. Continue to try to take care of her. Have you check into a lawyer yet? You will not be able to proceed very far without the courts backing you. Document all that you can, video or cell phone pictures. Time is ticking and sometimes the courts will take a long time to get anything done. Best of luck, Ace

I am a foster parent and see this kind of situation a little more often than I would like. First I agree with aceshigh, consult a lawyer and get child protective services involved. Having/using drugs in the house is enough to pull the kids out legally, and when they do you can step up to the plate and take her in. I understand that it will cause conflict between you and your father but you need to focus on her safety. As I am sure you know with drugs along comes other issues.
