raysquier, our resident expert is not online at the moment. I want to direct you to his info link at the top of the dog forum but I have questions:

    How old is your dog?

Why do you want to give your dog milk? Why are you considering this?

No. It is short butter fat, but still has all the lactose that dogs can't digest. For a healthy dog, feed it a commercial dog chow, very little else, and no more than it needs. Dog chows are carefully formulated to give dog what they need. What is good for dogs and people is a complete and balanced diet and not too much of it. Even is somebody made a people food as good for them as dog chow is for dogs, it would never sell. People demand a variety and often insist on eating too much carbohydrates, salt, and fats rather then veggies and cheese that has things they need too. So the things we don't eat enough of are ''good'' for us. If your dog was eating a diet short in fat, protein, and whatever else is in milk, then milk would be ''good'' for it. If your dog is eating a complete and balanced dog chow, then milk or anything else that isn't a complete and balance diet really does not improve its diet.

Excess weight can lead to back problems for Dachshunds. Here is a link to checking yours, http://www.puppychow.com/products/po...condition.aspx Adjust what you are feeding your dog if you need to to reach ideal body condition.

Cats and milk [ 2 Answers ]

In the 1950's I remember that we used to feed our pet cat milk or cream (if they were lucky) almost exclusively. That was thought to be what they ate, and we had several cats that lived for years on cow's milk. Now my cat won't touch milk and I read that cat's are generally lactose intolerant...
