    Cat giving birth
My brothers cat started some labor yesterday. Her belly was huge, and now she hardly has a belly at all. I am thinking her water broke, since there was a big whitish stain on the carpet and she was all wet. Throughout the day yesterday she has been bleeding with some kind of clearish mix with it.

She started contractions yesterday about 7:30 or so, being 3 minutes apart... still no kittens as we speak and it is 1:30.

Should I be concerned, is this normal?? We were concerned that she may not be pregnant, maybe just sick, but when you feel her belly, you can feel the kitten or kittens in there. But when she gets up to walk, she looks anorexic.. is this normal?

I moved this to it's own thread, so you have a better chance of getting answers.

It sounds like she's giving birth, and hiding the kittens. If her stomach is smaller, then it's probably because she's having the kittens elsewhere, and keeping them hidden.

Cats can pause or stop labor, for up to a full day, if they feel unsafe. As long as she doesn't seem to be in distress, then you shouldn't worry.

After a cat gives birth, the stretched skin will hang when they walk, making them look a bit strange. After seeing her so big, it can be a dramatic adjustment to see her after giving birth.

If she's an indoor cat, then you should be able to find the babies. If she's made the effort to hide them, then don't touch or move them, unless they're in an unsafe spot. Check under and behind all furniture and large appliances. Inside any cubbies of spaces that are small, dark, and quiet. Watch her and see if she tends to stay close to a particular room or area.
