    Rights for renters in NYS
Hi, my mother has been renting for 3 yrs, owner has decided to sell. Realtors are calling my mom to set up appointments for showing the property (4 units). Since last Saturday they have made appts for everyday except Sunday. My mom is in her 60's, she is a widow and has numerous medical problems. One of the tenants asked if they could set up for walk throughs at least twice a week because everyday is becoming to be an invasion of privacy. Twice this week realtors have shown up unannounced. The realtor told the other tenant that if they choose to do walk throughs only twice a week then they have to agree to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-6 pm. I think they are taking advantage of the tenants "hospitality". They are all still paying full rent. My mom likes to sew and do little projects around the house and now she can not because she needs to keep the house tidy for prospective buyers. A sale of a house can take months, not to mention the owner has already received an offer which she turned down. She is asking TOO much for the property and will never sell for that price. Can anyone advice me on what my mother and other tenants rights are regarding this invasion "everyday"? Please desperate to help my mother before she goes bonkers. Thank you.

Unless there is other clauses in the lease, they merely have to notify the renters the date and time for the walk though. Normally the owner will show the unit if you are home or not.

You are not required to have it neat and clean, and someone buying an apartment will be looking for more important issues, such as structure, leaks, plumbing and the such.

The two days only from 9 to 6 sounds like a very fair arrangement.
