We are planning for our first child. My last periods started on 30 March 2012. I have not yet started with my next menstrual cycle till today also, whereas I have a 28 day cycle and my periods have always been regular. However the only symptoms I have are that I feel very tired, at least once in a day for around a couple of hours I feel very dizzy and have occaional mild cramps in my lower abdomen. I use to take birth control pills some time back but I have stoppe those pills from June 2011. I took a home pregnancy test on 2 may which was negative but my friend suggested that I had taken it very early. I again took the test on 8 may which was again negative . I want to know how when next should I take the test to check if I am pregnant? Further if I was taking birth control pills till last year, does it affect your home test results and doesn't come positive till a long time whereas I may be pregnant.

Usually by now, a pregnancy test would give you an accurate reading if you were pregnant. However, some women do find that it can take several weeks. It may also be that your cycles are just off and you skipped a month. It is not common when you normally have regular cycles, but it can happen.

You could wait and see if you also miss a period for May and then test again at that time. You could wait a few more days and, if still no period, try another test, making sure to follow the directions carefully. Or you could see your doctor and ask about having a blood test done.

Having stopped the birth control pills back in June 2011 would not effect your test results at this time.
