Everyday I feel myself getting sicker and sicker because my money grubbing landlord has crackheads illegally living in the basement below my apartment. Every night they argue, fight and smoke what I suspect is crack and the smoke comes up through the floor and along the pipes coming from the basement. I have called the city and complained, but of course I live in corrupt CHICAGO so when the building inspectors come out the landlord just tells them to take a walk for awhile... I'm on a fixed income due to a disability and can barely afford to live here but I feel its totally unfair that I should be forced out of my home for dope fiends. Is there anything I can do LEGALLY to get rid of them and shed some light to all this drug activity that's going on?

Since you don't own the building, there is nothing you can do but call the authorities and hope someone either arrests them for using or cites the landlord for code violations.

The only other thought I have is, if your doctor can verify that you are having health issues due to the second hand smoke, you might be able to sue the landlord.

Have you tried local disabled organizations to help you find another apartment?

The police! I have called them numerous times and I believe they have an actual pay no mind list because no one comes when I call now. I just recently left the hospital so when I follow up with my doctor I will ask for a tox screen and let him know the situation. I have contacted some agencies and for right now I have my name on every housing waiting lists possible...
