What do I do if I forgot to wipe off the excess stain from the wood after staining?

I stained a patio door and I forgot to wipe off the excess stain off. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is but my question is what can I do about it? Do I need to sand it and start all over or can I just put the spar on? It does not look bad, I'm just not sure if it will give me problems later.
