I started watching our water meter about a year ago because my wife (we just got married) was saying her water bill was about $ 400.00 per 6 months or a little over 54,000 every 6 months.

Called the water company and after several weeks they said they found a problem with the meter reading High on the low pressure test. About 10 to 15% higher than normal. He said it would translate into a big credit.

To make a long story short, I got a 25.00 credit on my account and I tried to call them again, but they never returned my call. My wife never called them in over 35 years nor was she ever late in 35 years.

Here is what I found - the new digital meter is 5/8 inch in the supply (from the main) and I have 1/2' piping in the house. But the meter was a 5/8' by 3/4' and the Water Department put a reducer on the meter.

Meter Master who makes the meters states they do not make nor recommend reducers on there meters. When I asked why not, they referred me to the Water Department. Again I asked" You DO NOT make your meters for reducers and she said yes, we only authorize ex-panders.

Does anybody think this is the reason why my water bill is high. It is only two of us that work during the day. Water Savers everywhere - no pools, sauna's bathing (shower's yes) . Laundry 2 loads every MWF. We had the house tested for water leaks and there are none

I read an average of 168 gallons per day. They say we are using 240 gallons per day. There meters are read by WiFi. Perhaps part of the problem.
