    Connection to direct TV receiver
Hi! My name is Wade and I'm trying to figure out how to connect a Panasonic dvd recorder to a direct TV receiver and then to TV. I've got the main cable going into the receivers input and the receivers output to the TV and the video and audio out from the receiver to the in of the dvd recorder and the out of the recorder to the in of the av1 of the TV! Something's wrong and I would appreciate any input,no pun intended! Thanks so much!! 1

Check and see if you have all cables hooked to the same colors... Yellow White Red. Also, next to the TV AV1 isn't there another IN choice there? You might have connected to that one instead of the IN AV1.

    Best way to connect everything...

Component out from DVD recorder to component input on TV (component video is the red, green, blue RCA connection, you'll also need to connect stereo audio with this video connection).

Composite audio/video out from DirecTV receiver to video input on DVD recorder.

    * Composite audio/video out from DirecTV receiver into TV. (Composite audio/video is the yellow RCA video connection with the stereo audio).

You will want to set your DVD recorder to record from the matching video input (usually Line 1 or something similar). It will record whatever is going on with your DirecTV receiver -- this includes if someone pulls up the guide while it is recording.

    * This connection is actually optional. If you don't connect this, then you will always need to turn your DVD recorder on and have it on the correct input to watch DirecTV. Basically you will be passing the video signal from your DirecTV, to your DVD recorder, from your DVD recorder, to your TV. Connecting this way will allow you to primarily keep your TV on, say, AV 1 -- only needing to change inputs when you watch a DVD or want to record something (or program a recording).
