Can I have 3 false positive pregnancy tests? Or because ovary is stuck to bowel?
I have had 3 faint but obvious positive tests, all within the time limit, no pulling apart, looking in different lights, straining eyes, inverting colours etc, the tests were taken properly, to the letter, I even got my partner to pee on the last one to see if they were all defective, needless to say he is not pregnant and the problem may not be with the tests. I have bowel problems and suspected pelvic inflammatory disease, since my ovary is stuck to my bowel with scarring, my pelvic region is full of fluid and my ovary is also displaced, could this cause hCG to be present?

No, you would not get a false reading because of that situation. There are very specific circumstances when hcg is present. If you read the test accurately, then you are pregnant. Hopefully it is a good thing? Congrats!

Possibility:There is a medical condition called 'blighted ovum' which can give you false positive pregnancy test readings. This happens when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus but the resulting embryo either stops developing very early or doesn't form at all. With an early pregnancy failure, you'll still get a positive result on a pregnancy test, because the placenta begins to develop and starts to secrete human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), the hormone that these tests look for.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I have to ask, what does this have to do with the OP's question?

The OP has had 3 positive pregnancy tests, therefore she's pregnant. If there are health issues, or she has a blighted ovum, then it will most likely be diagnosed when she goes to her first OBGYN appointment. Scaring her by telling her something that could be, when there's no reason to assume that anything is going on, that's a bit mean.

Your answer for this question doesn't make sense. It would be like someone asking if their fetus is male or female and you replying that it could be a hermaphrodite. Yes, it's possible, but has nothing to do with the question asked.

    Hello

Thank you all for taking the time to respond, and don't worry alty, I don't scare easy :) problem is me and my husband have to be extremely careful over protection, so how this happened is a mystery (or when for that matter given the state of my cycle!), hence the question! Due to my bowel problems a pregnancy is incredibly risky, even life threatening, my last pregnancies were risky but no one knew that then, I was lucky but left with a lot of damage. I figured it must be something to do with my damaged ovary but just wishful thinking perhaps? I'd love another baby which is what makes this situation so heart breaking, I only took the test to make a friend feel better taking hers, since she had a twin pack! Then I rushed out for more! How typical. Time to see the doctor again it seems, maybe there is a way. I have a scan coming up in the next few days anyway for my usual problems, it may shed some light. Thank you all xxxx

    Hi FirstChair,

In a blighted ovum situation, technically a woman has become pregnant so it wouldn't be a false positive, but I do understand what you are saying.

It would just be an unfortunate situation of the pregnancy not being sustainable as there would be no embryonic development and it would be an early loss. This is one reason some women will have an early positive, and may show positive for a short time, but later it becomes a negative. This occurs with any miscarriage.

    Hiya

I think I already know the answer but is there anyway to tell if a pregnancy has implanted and started developing successfully, or if a blighted ovum situation may have occurred? The scan will know for sure as long as it's big enough to be detected, I'll mention it anyway so they know to have a real good look! I just ran out and bought some more cheapy tests, took one and the line is still very faint, I haven't been able to see any line until the dye has cleared from the window and the strip has gone back to a white colour, leaving the two lines, since the test line is so faint, so I'm going to try one in the morning, I guess the answer is pretty clear if there is a line at all, and it's definitely noticeable, to my hubby as well and he isn't usually that observant! Poor guy has the hump now, he really wants another baby too, upsetting him to think it may not be safe for us :( to think I nearly chucked the first test after a few seconds thinking it was negative! It's still got the clearest line of them all even though tests are invalid after 5 minutes, for this brand anyway, it's still the same! Xxx

    Hi azurei,

The only way to know the stage of development is to see what an ultrasound shows. If it is very early in a pregnancy, there may not be much seen, so it is always best to wait a few weeks and have another scan anytime an early scan is questionable, regardless of the reason.

When you test again, do use first morning urine since it would be early in a possible pregnancy.

    Hello Alty,

Being mean is not in my nature as hope it is not in your nature.

In the subject title of azurei's post she wrote “Can I have 3 false positive pregnancy tests? It is a question and I answered along with others who want to be helpful and informative.

I replied with a possible answer to her question of a blighted ovum and I described the condition. I take responsibility for my answers, but it is not my responsibility how an OP will react when a question is asked and others respond. Frankly, I thought she took the information well and appears to be a woman seeking to be informed.

I wish azurei and her partner all the best. May all their hopes and dreams come true for them and their family.

    Hello everyone,

Yes I am grateful for all your responses and good wishes, it helps, really :) I was slightly confused, I had a test that had such a faint line and by the time limit it had disappeared, so thinking the hormone must have gone from my system I bought a twin pack of digitals since it's basically a yes or no answer, figuring it would come up negative now, but no, pregnant 1-2 weeks, which wasn't with morning urine so maybe the 1-2 weeks is slightly off, it says for it to be accurate to test in the morning, but the yes the pregnant or not pregnant answer should be accurate, and a cheapy test now has a stronger line, so I guess that's that, I'm very crampy today, it hurts quite a lot, but so it did in the beginning of my last pregnancy, it had me crippled that time! I just need to see what they find at my scan now, they are seeing if anymore damage has occurred to my bowel and reproductive organs, but I'll mention this and make sure they have a good look around, I had an early scan in my previous pregnancies, even at 4 weeks there was a tiny sac, couldn't see a baby but the sack was definitely there so hopefully they will see something, then my hospital doctors may be able to advise, hopefully there will be a way to continue without risking my life, I still don't know how this could have happened, we are so careful for that reason, it's just too risky, but I guess sometimes the greater plan isn't always our own! Wish me luck! And thank you all so much xxxx
