My second brother was born here in the United States, he applied for my mom so she could become of 'legal status' a few years ago. My mom is now a permanent resident, next year she will be able to apply to become a citizen. But as for now I would like to know if I have to leave the United States and go back to Canada (where I was born) to get my papers? My mom applied so I can become of legal status when I was 18 I am currently 21 years old and I've been told I have to go to Canada for an appt with immigration and they will determine over there whether they will give me my papers or not depending on this " pardon package" I had to pay n put together as well. Which consists of letters from people I know and my family and a family album including a letter from myself basically showing why I want to stay and how much it would affect me and all the people around me if they were to not allow me to come back in the country. Because see that is my biggest fear once I leave the country I cannot come back in here without my papers, and I will be all alone in Canada since I do not have any family whatsoever living there. Also there's the possibility that they do accept the petition and give me the papers to become a permanent resident but still ban me from coming in the country for up to 10 years since I have been living illegally here after my Visa expired. Also I am aware that my brother being a citizen here could put a petition in for me too but the reason we didn't do that is because it takes a very long time and requires for me to leave the country while I wait for the whole processing. So do I "HAVE" to leave the country ? Or does this lady from "catholic charities" that has my case not know what she is talking about or doing? (My brother applied through her to get my mom her papers, which makes it hard to doubt her)
