    Lease Concern
    Hi,
I just moved into a new apartment on Feb 7th. I was told that after I sign the lease the owner will sign the lease and return it back to me. I read somewhere a similar situation on this site, but I would like to know if I should be very worried. The lease was over 40 pages and I refused to sign it on the spot so I took it home, photo copied it (unsigned), read it, signed it, and returned it. It's only been 16 days but the Leasing department has been giving me the run around about the Owner being busy. My first month's rent is due April 1st, so I wanted to have the lease signed by the owner in my possession before then. Should I be concerned that he hasn't signed my lease as yet? Should I continue to stay on their case about it? What can I do about this situation? What are my rights? What are their rights?

Your thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how big a landlord it is. If this is a guy with a lot of rentals properties he's juggling, then I wouldn't worry yet. But if it's a small landlord with only a few properties, there might be some call for concern. Who are you supposed to pay the rental to? I would let them know, that you expect your signed copy before your rental is due.
