Both bathtubs clogged and toilets won't flush
I won't curse here... but this is the first time my toilet won't flush after trying a plunger over the course of several hours. In the same room, the bathtub has not been draining properly for weeks (very slow). I figured it was all my hair and since it eventually drained, I didn't think much about it.

Now, I can't get the toilet to flush with a plunger. And the water in the tub is standing there or going down verrrry slow. I have a plumber friend that I hope knows what he is doing.

Is there anything I can do on my own before I call a plumber? I can't exactly use my neighbor's bathroom in the middle of the night...

    Help..

Hi Trudijane and Welcome to The Plumbing Page. At AskMeHelpDesk.com. You're responding to a 4 year old dead thread so I gave you one of your own. Look in then upper left hand corner of the first post form the date in the first post before you post, Thanks,
You have a blockage downstream from your tub. This can be addressed in several ways. You will need to rent a snake. A larger one for #1 and a smaller one if you go for option # 2.
1- Pull the toilet and snake from there. **OR**
2- .Unscrew and remove the overflow plate,(The one with the drain lever) and pull out the tub stopper. You now have a clear shot at the trap. The way you were going in through the drain it ran you square into a tee that you can't get around. Now feed the cable( 1/4" best or 3/3" with a small tip. You can rent a Ridgid K50 sink cable.) About 2' down you will run into the bend of the trap. Crank and push at the same time to work around it. Your blockage will be found in the lateral pipe going to the stack. You shouldn't have to put out more then 10 or 12 feet. I have found tub and shower clogs to be mostly hair and the worm should auger into it and pull it back. After you snake pour a few pans of boiling water down the drain. This will loosen the grease and flush the mess out into the main. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my reply. TOM

I have two bathtubs, that are both slow to drain. We've used several types of drano, etc and they've all worked a little. But this morning my husband took a shower and the water didn't drain at all. Then we realized that the water had backed up into the bathtub as well. I'm worried that the...
