I've always had a steady heavy period, why am I not having one now

I have always been a heavy bleeder and my periods have always lasted one week or more, but as of the last three months not only has it been irregular, I'm only spotting brown for a few days or less. All pregnantcy tests have come back negative, I've even had a blood test done. I don't know what to do.
