Hi my boyfriend broke up with me a week ago. We had been going out for 3 years and before that we were very close friends for around 4 years. His reasoning for the break up was that we argued too much and although we did have a lot of arguments I personally feel they are things that we could have worked on. The day he broke up with me he told me he loved me then we had a petty argument that escalated and he then told me he didn't want a girlfriend anymore. It seems completely out of the blue! We'd been for loads of nice dinners that week as well!
I know I need to work on aspects of my life, not for him but for myself. He hates me when I go out and get drunk because not only does he worry but I ring him at early hours of the morning begging to go round to his. He broke up with me by text and the next day I had to convince him to meet me in order to get the closure I felt I deserved. We had a couple of days space and then I texted him two days later asking if he could turn our break up into a break. He said no and that he had already made his mind up so I asked if he could ring me. When he rang me I stayed very calm and just explained that we had never been on a break before, I loved him and I thought space could enforce a stronger relationship. He cried but said he didn't want to be with me but he also didn't want to be with anyone else and wanted to be friends, I had the whole 'its not you its me'. I haven't spoken to him since (4 days later) and I was just wondering if you think there is any chance we could get back together? I keep telling myself that some space will make him realise we were good together and eventually he will want me back!

I think you need to leave him alone. Respect his feelings. He told you why he wanted the break up. Whether you agree with is reasoning does not matter. It is how he feels.
