OPT and Social security/ Medicare Taxes !
    Hi Expert,

I came to US in 2009 on F-1 and started working on CPT in June 2011. I converted to OPT status in feb 2012 and still working in the same company now on a pay roll. I have applied for an H-1 visa this 1st April. My company is withholding my social security and medicare. Is that correct ? I was under impression that if you are on OPT till your H-1 gets approve (in my case it may be in October 2012)you are not liable to pay social security and medicare. Please advise what is correct ?

Yes, since you are on F-1 visa and you're a non-resident (this is your 4th year), you do not need to pay Social Security and Medicare tax. You should inform your company payroll about this.
