How can I protect my vested interest?
I am married and live in Florida. Right now I am in the military and stationed in another state. My name is on the mortgage but not on the deed. I pay half the mortgage. I asked my spouse to add my name, but he refuses and I think I might get the shaft since we are experiencing marital problems anyway. What can or should I do?

Are you on the mortgage note (which is not the same as the mortgage)?

If not, if he were to fail to pay, you would not be liable for a deficiency judgment. Your name on the mortgage simply makes it easier for the bank to foreclose, if it needs to.
