How much time for boyfriend to move out of my house
    Hello
I asked my BF to move in after just a few months of dating, I own my home. He has lived with me for 1.5 yrs. Unfortunilty we have bought furnture together some I am still paying on with my credit card but he he paid for the couch himself which he can take with him. How long do I give him to move and what monies should I ask for? He is paying about $1200 a month now.

What do you expect him to pay you money for? If he is paying $1,200/ month now (his share of household expenses I assume), why do you figure he should pay you something after he moves out? His contribution of the furniture you plan on keeping? However much he paid for it, less depreciation, probably.

In other words, figure it something like this: the two of you bought a table for $100. He paid $25 (1/4) and you paid $75. It is now worth $50 (what you could get for it). Pay him (1/4 x $50 =) $12.50.

As far as how long you should give him in your notice to quit, it is normally 30 days, but would depend on the specifics of the landlord tenant law wherever you are.

ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. Since he doesn't have a lease he is a month to month tenant. He has to be given notice according to the laws where you live, a key piece of info you left out.

If you are telling him to move out, then he doesn't owe you anything.

As ScottGem said, there is "a key piece of info you left out", which you must supply before we can answer that.

Are you in the U.S. If so, which state?

Normally it is a month, but some places will be 60 days so much depends on where you live.

Let me first state.. I don't expect or want any money from him when he moves, not sure how that started. I only requested what was fair regarding a notice since he will have to come up with a deposit on his knew place. What I wanted to know is what is appropriate regarding time to move out, 30 days sounds correct. I live in California

It started because of what you posted in your initial post:

That's why we needed to know location. Thirty days is not correct. Sonce he has lived there more than a year, you need to give him 60 days notice.
