Lawn tractor turns over sometime and not others
When I turn the key sometimes it spins the starter and runs fine and other times it acts like there is not enough power to spin the starter but is trying. The battery was just replaced and it run great once started I'm just wondering if the srater or celinoid is going bad

I don't think so because it is trying to start just turns over sometimes and other times acts like it locked up or battery dosen't have enough power but it is a new battery.

They look pretty good and I just replaced the battery thinking that was the problem but still does it I'm thinking the celinoid might be getting weak or the is some internal binding going on.

    Hi,
Well, being both mechanical pieces, the solenoid and keyswitch are commonly failed items. Power equipment dealers sell tons of them a year.

I have an older (86-87) 18 HP Craftsman lawn tractor (917.2559101) that turns over really nicely but will not catch and start. In fact it sounds like the starter is just turning freely without any load on it. Someone told me they thought I needed to replace the solenoid? I know this is an old...

Craftsman lawn tractor turns over but won't start? [ 1 Answers ]

18 HP Craftsman 1000 turns over very slowly but won't start. Took the plug out and it turns over normal speed, so the starter seems fine. No visible spark on the plug when out of the engine - magneto/coil problem?
