How many years does a conviction show up on a background check?
I was arrested & convicted of possession in New York in 2005. How many years will this continue to show up on a background check? I thought the limit was 7 years.

7 years is the limit a bad credit reference is reported on your credit report. Criminal records remain forever.

Depends... what kind of background check? There is no "limit"... its only how much are they willing to pay to go how far back. That conviction will always be there and be turned up for certain types of background checks. Get a high level clearance or try to work in law enforcement and they will know what brand diapers you wore as a baby.

    Here's 2 FCRA guidelines:

New York FCRA-Arrest Info pertaining to an arrest or criminal charge may not be reported unless there was a criminal conviction for the arrest or the arrest is still pending; Convictions may be reported up to seven years-however, if the job applicant can be expected to earn $25,000 or more, the 7 year rule does not apply

Federal FCRA-Arrest info can be reported for up to 7 years; Convictions can be reported indefinitely
