Thoroughly confused in NYC
Ok, my girlfriend broke up with me via email about 8 weeks ago via email. At first, I was OK with it but the my emotional immaturity got the best of me and communication became vitriol. We communicated through email after that only because we have a son and I want to know what is going on with him at all times. We split because of mis-communication issues. She would be controlling and I would NOT be controlled so I would just shut down and ignore her. So recently - after a few weeks of not communicating- she sends me a text... saying: "So, in spite of my best judgement, I'm complelled to let you know i DO miss you. I'm undeterred but just wanted to tell you." I articulated that I have reflected on what has happened and was willing to share them with her. She was willing to listen- but cannot trust my words or her emotions. I said what was on my mind and left my heart on my sleeve- but did emphasize I am not saying them to get back together. I said that we both needed some time to find ourselves as well.

One night came home from being out, she calls me crying saying her grandmother in Montana (that's where she is from) is dying and she needs to go back home and she doesn't know what to do. So I console her and offered my help. She didn't have $ for 2 plane tickets back to Montana (she lives in Connecticut) and she thought about driving. I said I would give her the $ so that she doesn't have to drive with our son cross-country for 18 hours. She said she wouldn't take the $ because she doesn't know when she'll be able to pay me back or if she can at all. Well, she didn't end up oing because her randmother recovered and she emailed me..."Thanks again for being so supportive last night. It meant alot."So a few days has passed and I text her... "I am not going to lie. I was thinking abou you this morning when I woke. I hope all is well with you. Take care." Her response was (after 24 hours).. "Thank you. It was a busy day and I didn't know how to respond so I guess I just didn't. I hope you are doing well, too."

I sent the last text as a rhetorical text but she responded... my perception is that she still cares and loves me but needs a little space (which I need as well). So, from now on, I am ceasing all communication with her unless it has to do with our son.

Advice anyone?

Your doing the right thing. You both miss each other. Time will tell if you two are destined to be together.

Maybe you are better parents apart.
