Trust fund was stolen by relative?
My grandfather set up a trust fund for my sister and I before he died- my grandmother who he left very wealthy took the money for herself. I have no idea how much was in it as as my father tells me there was no trust but I know for a fact that there was and I believe he split the money with her. What are my options? How do I even find out how much was in it and where? Ty

You go though the probate records after her death for her estate.

Trust funds are recorded. You can do a search at the country recorders office. What did your grandfathers will say about grandma?

This may or may not help. Grandfather set up the trust before he died, so the trust may not be even mentioned in his will. If grandmother was the trustee, your attorney might be able to force her to reveal the information.

As with many questions in this forum, it would help if we knew which state OP is in.

If OP knows who grandmothers estate planning attorney was, it might be a good idea to contact that attorney for information about the trust.

And of course over the years, grandfather may have been talked into closing or not funding a trust by someone or just changed their mind.
