    Reporting HIPAA violations
My question is a employment violation. Is there a phone number that I can call or a website that can assist me. I wanted to know a past employer can they give out any medical information for employment verification.

You should really start your own question. For Consumers this was part of my post on the old question. Can you give more details about your situation? How did your old employer obtain this info?

Can a past employer give out medical information as part of an employment verification by a "new" prospective employer? Is that your question?

Depends what was given out. For example, the employer could state that the person was fired for excessive absences. Can they say, "Charlie was out all the time with high blood pressure"? No, they cannot.

Can you post some details without posting too much - for example, what was the health problem, what was released to the prospective employer? Did the person who has this question EVER sign a release, allowing this info to be given to prospective employers... or anyone else?

I've seen employment applications which pretty much allow the employer access to a person's life, including releases of all kinds. Not smart to sign, no matter how badly a person needs the job.

As noted its not a good idea to piggyback your question on another thread. So I've moved your post from this thread https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/other-...on-586203.html to your own.

What I don't understand is why the previous posts in that thread giving contact information where not sufficient for you.

In any case, unless your employer was also a provider of your medical care, then it is probable that they got the information with your permission so no HIPAA violation occurred. But it depends on what info they gave out under what conditions to determine if your rights were violated in any way. So you need to provide more info as asked by the previous responders.
