How old do you have to be to get a piercing without parental approval in Arizona?
So I'm 15 and I want a lip ring but my parents are way to old fashioned. Yes I see things from their point of view as well. They just don't even seem to bother to try and look at it from my side. So I want to get my peircing without their permission. I know its immature and disrespectful to them but they have to understand that I'm pretty headstrong about this. I have my head in straight and I know what I want. So is there anyway to convince them? And if not how old do I have to be to get it without their approval?

AZ law has different age and parental permission requirements for different actions on different parts of the body, so read the FAQ on halopiercing.com in Phoenix. Basically you aren't going to be able to get it done.

Remember that your parents are legally responsible for your health should infection occur, and that means money and even charges of child neglect. So it isn't just about appearances and who is old fashioned.

Also the minute you get home, even if you were allowed, they merely order you to take it out, and throw away the stud. They can just force you to not use it, so you really only gain getting grounded, having all of your rights taken away, and lose all trust they may have in you.

It just is awfully hard being a teenager, no matter who you are or how permissive your parents are.
Try to think of it this way: your thoughts, wishes, dreams, plans for the future are yours and yours alone.
But some things you just have to put on hold until you are on your own.
I assume you have money to pay for all this, but who pays the doctor bills when it gets infected?
And another view is why do you get to buy something they don't want, even with your own money, while they pay for all sorts of other things you own, eat, use, and so on? Starting with the roof over your head and the groceries.
Does that make sense? (I know it didn't when I was 15... )
Anyway, your parents have 3 kinds of responsibility: legal, financial, and ethical.
Try to give that some thought while you plan your life of independence some day. And maybe save some money for then too. Because you will be in for a huge shock: it's EXPENSIVE, and lots of teens these days end up living at home and hating every minute of it while they endure the same controls and demands.

Legally none of this matters - you have to be of legal age. Anyone who DOES the piercing of a minor without parental consent commits a crime. That includes another minor.

As far as what the parents can or cannot do, that's the stuff for legal threads.

It's not that parents are old fashioned necessarily (I had a girlfriend pierce my ear when I was 12 and you used to get your butt kicked by everyone for being "A fag", 1969), but we know what employers and others think when you show up with a ring in your lip. If you are a music artist it's great and you're trendy. If it's McDonalds and you're going to make burgers, you're that flake loser who nobody wants around. You have to learn how to deal accordingly.

Oops, to answer your question though, in Arizona you can get an eyebrow or lip pierced at 14 WITH parental consent. Otherwise, it's 18 when you are legally an adult and can make your own decisions.
