Levitron 3 Way Motion Sensor Wall Switch
I have power coming in from the basement to the first floor 3 way switch with a 4 way switch on the second floor and a 3 way on the top floor. The 3 way on the third floor appears to go to the lights. The 4 way has two wires going down as travelers to the first floor and two wires as teavelers to the third floor.

I want the first floor 3 way to be a motion sensor. I bought the switch and wired it but I am a bit confused about the jumper and Levitron is closed until Monday.

From what I've seen - this forum should be able to help me.

From the wiring diagram Levirton gives you - they say to REPLACE the wires on the common and one of the switch terminals with jumpers and then connect the jumpers with a wire nut". But the diagram looks like they are connecting the two jumpers to the hot and to the black wire going to the motion sensor. Is this correct? They never say to connect the jumpers to these wires. I just want to be sure.

Second, assuming this is what I need to do, the wires already on the third floor 3 way are connected in the holes in the back not the screw termincals. Can I just jump the two screw terminals?

Third, again assuming that is what I need to do, do I need to do anything to the 4 way?

    Thanks, Scott.

See if these previous posts help:

Replace any connections from the push in type to wrap around the screw type. The push in type connections are a popular cause of loose connection problems.

    Hope this helps some.

I followed your posts and found this response including wiring diagrams.

That is good and I will have to check to confirm this is how I am wiring my setup. One question, though, what do I do if I have three 4 way switches between these 3 ways? Do I jump one side for each switch to provide continuous power to the motion sensor??

"Here I am again making a reply to my own message...
I got an email from the tech support at Leviton.
Evedently there are 2 revisions of the PR180.

The older one has Red, Black and a (solid) Yellow wire.
The newer one has Red, Black and a Yellow/Red striped wire.
The wiring of these are different depending on which rev. you have.

Also I was wrong about having to have the PR180 in the box that goes to the light. These will work at either the box with the hot wire or at the box with the wire leading to the light box. The tech sent me 4 pictures that show how to wire the PR180.

I don't think even a real electrician would be able to figure these out without the diagrams. At least the user would not want to have to pay for the time it would take to figure things out. Without knowing, I wouldn't have just tried every combination for fear of destroying the device. It's a wonder why the proper documentation is not in the box or even on the Leviton web site.

    Here are the 4 diagrams:

Old version with PR180 at box with hot wire:

Old version with PR180 at the box with wires going to light box:

New version with PR180 at box with hot wire:

New version with RP180 at box with wire going to light:

    Hope this helps
    Kevin
