    Tax questions
    Hi,

I am an Indian working on F-1 OPT status in the state of MA. My federal taxes withheld are $6000 and MA state tax withheld is $2300 for FY2011. Can you please tell me how much tax refund can I expect and how can I file my taxes like which forms I need to fill and if I can do it online or paper.

    Thanks a lot!

You have to file 1040 NR. Also you will have to file form 8843.See Pub 519 Page 6 (starting from
Exempt individual) and ending Page 7 ( just before Professional athletes). Also see page 28 under "Standard deduction". As a student from India you can claim std deduction due to a tax treaty. It is best to do on paper as online software does not support 1040NR.

There are programs that help you prepare non-resident returns (Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ) but all they do is generate a PDF version of Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ. There is NO efiling option for these forms.
