I think my bonus was stolen
I am a dept. Manager at a grocery store and have been on a bonus program for 10 years now ,I have recently found out that for the past 2 years the owner of the store has been paying all of his personal bills out of the stores account which has caused the stores profit to be in the negative and has also caused my bonuses to be taken away. Can the store owner sabotage his own buisiness to keep from paying his employees their bonuses?

I don't know that the owner is sabotaging his business. He is simply taking his profit.

Are the terms of this bonus program in writing? If so, do they specify that the bonus is to be based upon profit calculated in a particular way?

So what do you want to do about it? This sounds like it could be embezzlement. Or not. But if you pursue this you could be out of a job.

Maybe "his bills" are in the place of paychecks. Without knowing the corporate setup (or lack of corporate, legal setup) I don't think I can tell.

And what do you consider "personal bills?"

Without knowing how he is treating those payments, if his accountant is showing it as payment or income to him. Does he draw a paycheck?
