Witness Protection Program
If someone in the witness protection program has passed away. Could a family member request information of the individual prior to him being placed in the system?

If a person is in the witness protection program how would someone know he/she passed away?
You can certainly attempt to find criminal convictions, public info on anyone but some info is available only to law enforcement.
What are you trying to find out?

My grandfather who was in the Witness Protection Program passed away some time ago. I know he was in the witness protection program because of a book that came out that had him in it. Even a picture. I am trying to find out our ancestry and where he came from and his parents info.

That's public knowledge, totally unconnected to Witness Protection. His life as it was before he entered the program is available on various sites. Some are pay, some are not.
His Police Record may be available on line.
You would need to search his name and then work backwards to find his parents' names.
Can't your mother or father provide any info?

Both are deceased before my grandfathers past became apparent. They never spoke of it growing up. Ive tried the criminal history search before. Thank you for your assistance!

The only way for me to give you additional info is for you to post info which is confidential. Have you tried an investigator in your area?

You may write a letter to the Federal Marshal Service in DC. Explain in the letter who you are, and provide proof ( they will check) They actually forward a small number of letters to people in the program from family and will then forward mail from them back ( very edited)
So write a letter to grandpa, attach it to the letter to the FMS and send it. They may forward it.
Also a book, was he from NJ and fairly high up and the book about 20 years old now ?
