I've been in a 2 year relationship with a girl that I'd lay my life down for. In the past 2 years we have seen the highs of "talking marriage" and the lows being classified as "friends". A lot, has changed in our relationship including myself getting a new job within the first few months of dating that required me to leave my 9-5 and start traveling without no guarantees of me getting home on the weekends to see her. She supported every decision I made about getting the job, so I wasn't leery at all when I took it.

AND then things changed, our open line of communication got halted because now her best friend had her time when I was gone and then jealousy on my side sunk in. We split up about 6 months into our relationship and went through the silent stage of not talking then followed by the simple conversations of being friends. This lasted sometime and I felt it going nowhere because obviously it wasn't heading in the direction that I wanted which was to be with her, so all communication ended again.

This lasted until the holiday season of 2011 came around when we started exchange simple texts about once a week due to a close friend of ours being sick in the hospital. Since then, we have went through a SLOOOOOOWWWW process of simple "hey", "how you doing", "have a great day" text messages to an occasional phone call and today a simple lunch date that lasted an hour. I get a text afterward about being happy and then later one that read "I don't want to freak you out but I love you! I think you're an amazing person and awesome friend! Thanks for being here for me".

Now, I'm not freaked out but curious as to what is in store. Is this the beginning of something great or another dead end street? I'm all for a positive outcome and grateful for what I've learned thus far about myself. Any suggestions on how to remain simple and open minded? She has already dropped hints about fun dates that we did in the past and hinted that she wanted to do something again. I just want to be prepared, thanks in advance!

It's a risk you have to take for yourself, because nobody but her can say what's on her mind, or what she feels. The best I can say is go for it, and hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

OK first off a girl will not spend this much time going back and forth with a guy if she did not see potential for a future. That being said, I would take it slow, and do not rush into saying the "L" word before you are ready. Manage your expectations and take it from there. Howeer my philosophy is to wear my heart on my sleeve. You know the saying it is better to have loved and lost than to not love at all.
