    Heat Pump / Thermostat Issues?
I have an older Lennox heat pump, and live in Western PA. I know that heat pumps are not the most efficient means to heat a home in this area. The issue I am having, that in the winter when the temps are below 35, I cannot seem to get the house warmer than 65-66 degrees (regardless of how high the thermostat is set), and that is with the heat pump running constantly. I was under the impression that there was a changeover feature, that it was supposed to kick on the electric strips (emergency heat) when it was unable to heat effectively.

The condenser has been replaced outside within the last 2 years, and it had been serviced at that time as well. I noticed the thermostat was extremely old, so I took off the panel and noticed that one of the wires had been taken off the terminal and clipped back (the terminal was still unscrewed). The wire that was clipped back was light blue, and the terminal was E. (attempted to attach an image)

    The other wires were: are (red), Y1(yellow), G(green), O(orange), C(black), W1(white).

    So, my questions are:

    - Is the wiring correct or incorrect (should the blue be fastened to the terminal)
    - Would replacing the thermostat add any value
    - Is there some other issue
    - Or, is this just the way a heat pump functions?

    Any help is appreciated.
