    Outlet and fan wiring
I replaced a ceiling fan with a light fixture. The wires in the ceiling junction box are black white and red and of course the light fixture is only black and white. The wall switch is a split switch with a separate top and bottom switch. No red wire is going to the switch itself. I hooked up just the black and white and capped off the red. I replaced the switch with a single switch and it does work but the top of one of the wall outlets is dead also the light in another room will not come on with the switch unless the switch that controls the new fixture is on. When I tripped the switch in the panel box only the black wire was dead the red was still live. I discovered that another breaker controlled the red. If I turn all the breakers on the switch on the light will not turn the light off.
