    Too much body-hair
Hi, I posted this in Men's Health a few days back, but did not get a response from anyone. So am reposting it here in a hope to get some solution to my problem.

I am a 26 yr old unmarried guy, and have been struggling with excessive hair all over my body. I know that if I Google on this, I will find plenty of answers, and believe me, I have read most of them. But so far, I have not found a solution to my problem. All the websites keep suggesting the same hair-removal techniques like laser, electrolysis, waxing, etc. etc. But I am too afraid to try any such thing, and I don't even have that kind of money to try such costly surgeries.

I have almost accepted my fate, and even-though I do feel depressed when I go for a bath and see my body full of hair, or feel ashamed when someone comments about the excessive hair, I can not do anything. I have a decent height, and an athletic body, and sometimes think that I would have gone to gym and would have build a decent body, if I didn't had the excessive body-hair problem. I love swimming, but have not been to a pool since I was a child, again only because I am ashamed of people commenting on the body-hair.

By excessive body-hair, I really mean that it is way too excessive. I have hairs about 2 inches long all over my back and chest, as well as on my hands and legs. I also have hair all over my neck, and have a very coarse beard. I don't know whether this is hereditary, but I assume it is not because my parents didn't have excessive body-hair. In fact I was growing pretty normal in my early years, but on one unfortunate day, I met with a terrible accident, and had a severe fracture in my legs. I did not suffer any other injuries besides that, but I was operated for the fracture, and had to stay in hospital for 2 months and take several antibiotic medicines. Since that year, my body hair started growing, and I was just about 12 yrs at that time. I don't know if my excessive body-hair growth is due to taking too many antibiotics or something else, but I am forced to believe that it is due to that.

Matters got worst for me 4 years back when I just decided by chance to pluck a few hairs out of my eyebrow. Even though I stopped plucking them after sometime, but my eyebrows started getting thicker and thicker after that. To my surprise, even my eye-lashes started getting extremely thick, and I didn't knew what to do about them. And very recently, I have started losing my head-hair (I'm getting bald from front). My situation now is such that I can never wear a round-neck t-shirt, since my back hairs and chest hairs would all make my situation miserable, and I can not enjoy my life at all. I have considered going to a doctor for consultation, but I did not go only because (1) I was afraid that the doctors too would laugh at my situation rather than understanding how I feel (2) I do not have that kind of money to consult and get treatment from a dermatologist.

As I already said, I have accepted my fate as it is, and am trying to live with it, but every now and then I feel that if my life could have been normal, I too could have lived it happily. I will appreciate if someone has a suggestion to this, or if someone who has faced such situation can guide me towards some sort of treatment. I know that many people who will read this will laugh at it, and will find it funny, and might also leave fun-making comments, but please try to help if you can, since you don't know how much it really hurts.

Your post made me sad. I don't know if I can help but I will tell you from a women's perspecitve... I myself don't care about hair on a guy, whether he has none, or a ton. I actually prefer more hair as this makes one more cuddly :) I love chest hairs too!

As far as what to do: I've done the laser treatments, very costly so I would not recommend. Electrolysis, tried it and it definitely was a waste or money. Waxing is the way to go, painful, but the outcome is worth it. I know you mentioned you don't have a lot of money but you should look up esthetic schools. The usually charge half of what salons charge and I have always had great services from those schools. The reason is, the students are still in training, therefore, charging a lot less. Don't let this scare you though, regardless, there will be a bit of pain! They also do eyebrow shaping. It's only a small amount of pain vs. outcome.

Also, I wouldn't recommend waxing everything! Only the spots that you are "troubled" by... hands, back, neck, etc. As far as your legs + arms go, why not trim the hair? Trim with some scissors because you wouldn't want bare legs :) Trim all the spots that are too long and wax the other ones. I know it's easy for me to say "don't be embarrassed" but you'd be surprised as to how many men go and get waxed. I would also check to make sure that it is not something medical, try and save up some money. Trust me, the doctors would not laugh.

Now, your hair is the next issue. Being bald can be sexy, work with it! You could look into hair treatments... Rogaine, Seakelp. Maybe these will help if you can afford it in time. Otherwise, you could shave it all off (popular look) and embrace yourself!

There are many options available, do not feel like there is "nothing"because you will create that sort of environment. Stay positive and I'm sure you will make some changes. Keep your head high. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. If it made you sad, think about me who's been suffering with this for the past several yrs. I know that a few women do like hairs on a man's body, but I am not talking about attracting a woman here. I am talking about the overall embarrassment because of these hairs. I have considered the options you mentioned in the past, but I don't see them working out. I sometimes wonder why these big companies like Gillette or Norcelo don't develop a cure for this problem.

Thanks though for at least trying to understand.

I was not trying to insinuate that your issue was attracting women. Naturally the embarrassment of excess hair would carry over though. Just trying to reassure you that one may not care. That's all.

I do understand the significance of your issue and have thought of something else... you could try depilatory creams which are fairly inexpensive and work really well. Sometimes skin can be sensitive so try a test spot first.

Increase of hair growth is a hormonal and genetic issue. Gillette and similar companies do have ways of treating hair growth... razors, creams etc... Controlling hormones is the responsibility of pharmaceutical companies. Unfortunately, genetics plays a factor as well. I DO understand as I am a woman that suffers with an increase of hair due to my eastern european background and being a "hairy" woman is not accepted well in North American society.

    Well then ,
Excess hair doesn't always have to be a dissavantage.
If you really think your that much of a hairy person you probably should see a doctor and check out what they have to see, Doctors Don't and Won't laugh at you ; it is more then likely that they have seen much worseon their patients.
Just because your unmarried at 26 I doubt it is because of your hair, not every girl wants a man with no hair. . It's the inside that counts not the body , honestly hair growth is 100 % normal and happens to everyone, in places no one likes to have hair . Eveen if its 2 inches long

Have you ever been to a doctor to see if your hair growth began because of all the antibiotics you tookk ? My suggestion is you should !

    Hope this helps,
    Love linds

I would def have that checked out by a doctor, because it could indicate a serious medical problem, such as hirsutism And if it means anything to you, I believe in God and that He heals any body malfunction that u might have if u believe. Idk how u believe but I would even check out some people who seem to operate highly in faith and get results to their prayers and have them pray for you

Correction: hirsutism may only occur in women. Hypertrichosis is something that a male might deal with. Not sure if it is serious or not. I would still have it checked by a doctor though
