    The repair shop
I took my laptop into a repair shop to have a part replaced on the back of it. When I went to get it back the owner told me that his repair man had disappeared and jad taken a few things with him, including my laptop. He assured me that he was going to continue to look for this man and call me when he turned up. A month and a half later I go in and the owner now tells me that he found out the "repair man" was in jail on unrelated charges and was still trying to find a way to get my laptop back. At the end of Feb. He will have had my laptop for a year! What do I do? I don't even know the first step to take, but I can't afford a lawyer. I don't have any receipt for it either since I bought it used last year from an aquaitance. Any advice is welcome!

Do you have a receipt from the store when you left it for repair? That should be enough to establish ownership. You shouldn't have waited so long. Take him to small claims court for the value of the laptop.

I only waited so long because I didn't know that is was missing until 2 months ago. Every inquiry I made prior to that he told me that they were still waiting on a part.
