Can you get married if you are on parole for domestic abuse? Vermont
I posted recently that my boyfriend had been arrested a few days ago for violation of probation and "escape" charges (which I believe was failure to report to his P.O.). He was originally charged with a domestic assault against a previous girlfriend 3 years ago. My boyfriend and I have been living together for 3 months prior to his arrest and were planning on getting married in a few months. I was NOT the victim in his assault charges, nor have I been abused or mistreated by my boyfriend in any way. I was told that when my boyfriend gets released he will not be able to live with me or have any contact with me while still on parole. My question is... if we can get his P.O. To agree can we get married and if so will my boyfriend/fiance be able to live with me again or can they keep us apart? Do you have more rights being married? We live in the state of Vermont. I've tried to research the legalities of getting married while on parole but haven't been able to turn up anything useful. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
