Assign variables to the plastic and ceramic cups.

Let p be the number of plastic cups and c be the number of ceramic cups.

There are a total of 500 cups, so that:

    p + c = 500

The total cost for the plastic cups is the number of cups, multiplied by the cost of each, that is the total cost of plastic cups is 2.75p. With the same reasoning, the total cost for the ceramic cups is 5.50c.

Together, they cost $1897.50. Which means:

    2.75p + 5.50c = 1897.50

You have two equations with two unknowns, can you solve it? :)
