Did my cat have a stroke?
My cat is about 13 years old and weighs about 20lbs. Brought her to the vet yesterday cause she didn't want to eat or drink and noticted she wasn't using the bathroom. Plus she was letting out these painful sounding meows(like she was hurting). The vet said that she was constipated and was possibly diabetic cause her blood sugar was high. They gave her an enema and some fluids and also a little pain medicine. Well today she had ate half a can of some food the vet gave me and drank a little water in the morning time. Well that was all she ate or drank all day. As the day went on she got to where she didn't want to move as much and started to get this blank stare in her eyes. She pratically laid in one spot all day. There was a couple times she moved around but she seemed like it hurt her to walk. She used the bathroom only once throughout the day and only because I put her in her litter box. Later that night I put her in her litter box again to see if she would go and she wouldn't but when I got her out and she tried to walk she just stumbled and fell to the ground. I also noticed she still had that blank stare and it seemed like she couldn't see my finger in front of her face but could feel it. I had also put her in front of her water and she wouldn't even touch it. I'm worried that it may be a stroke from the way she's acting. The only thing is I don't want to have to pay another $400 vet bill for them to tell me the same thing again. Plus its going into the weekend and their only open till noon on Saturday.

    Did they confirm her diabetes?
I think you need to take her back to the vet. If she is indeed diabetic and is not being treated for it, she could be suffering due to that.

She is suffering. I appreciate that Vet care is expensive, but that's part of owning an animal. I couldn't stand by and watch my animal in pain.

I think you need to take her to a Vet.

I did bring her back to the vet the next day. They checked her blood sugar again and it came back normal this time. They ended up giving her a steroid/anti inflammatory shot. They did say that she was developing arthritis in her back above her hind legs. But didn't think that was her problem. They actually wasn't real sure what was the matter with her. They said I would have to bring her to a specialist for further tests to be done to be able to find out more.
Good news though, a couple days after she started doing much better. She started eating, drinking and using the bathroom and moving around more. She's slowly getting back to her old self but I'm still not sure what was wrong with her. I still wonder if it was like a mini stroke or if it now could be linked to her arthritis. Either way I'm glad my baby is doing much better.

Thanks for letting us know. I have four kitties and hate it when one gets sick.
