I have signed a lease to move into a new apartment. Since then, issue have come up preventing me from being able to move. My move in date is coming up. I have not paid a deposit, just the app and admin fees. Are apartments flexible and do they allow you to change your mind. Is it time sensitive? How should I proceed?

Normally no you can not and are obligated to the lease since money has been paid and contract signed.

You need to read the application very completely and see what it allows. After that you need to be in the managers office in the morning, asking to cancel the agreement.

Thanks. I'm hoping they will be understanding. From speaking with friends who work as leasing agents in apartments, it is really just their call.

Some applications may state that there is a certain period, so do read it. You will of course lose all money paid most likely. But yes normally the leasing agents have a lot of authority to decide to make exceptions.

Basically, you will be responsible for the rental until they can find a replacement tenant.

I agree with all answers. You can ask to be released but they can, in many states, require you to pay full rent until a new tenant can take over.
