A customer called, his new machine is broken down; he needs it tomorrow but the soonest you can get a mechanic out is the day after tomorrow; describe what you would do.

If the company doesn't have a process for dealing with emergencies then it won't be in business for long.

You should talk to the customer and explain the situation and if the customer still needs the equipment fixed tomorrow you should try to change a mechanic's schedule, give the customer a loaner, or subcontract a mechanic to resolve the situation.

This can depend on what type of business. And what type of machine.

If this is a washing machine in someone home, they can wait two days. If this is a O2 machine that someone is breathing on, you have to be there in 12 hours reguar

If this was a large company with a manufactoring machine and it was shutting down production.

So there is no one right answer, it is a depends answer, and sometimes you have to find a way to get it fixed same day

If you ask them something they can answer with yes or no, the conversation ends. If you ask them to make a choice between two options or to describe what they want, it gives you opportunities to respond to what they said, and to sell them more than they may have originally wanted.
