    f1(opt) to h1
Hi. I was working on my 'opt' all through last yr and my 'h1' started a couple of weeks back. I just got my first paycheck... which included the medicare and ssn deductions. Is there a way, where I can know what the percentage deductions should be in my case? When I was in my 'opt' I was just paying $300 (fed+state) in taxes... and now my taxes have gone up to $741 (now includes the medicare and ssn too). My yrly income is 50k and I'm not sure if I should be paying so much in taxes. I'm here in US from aug'02 - jan'06 on student (f1+opt) status... and from jan on 'h1' status.

Social Security is 6.2%. Capped at $97,000.

Medicare is 1.45% on every dollar you earn.
