    Birth certificate problems
Hey all. My husband's parents had him when whe was a teenager and now he is almost 40. His parents were never together and he only met his dad at age eleven and he does have a relationship with him now, but more of a buddy kind. His dad does not live in the same city, he married someone a long time ago and had his own family. Lately I've been inquiring why his dad's name isn't on his birth certificate. We asked his dad if he could be put on it and he freaked out! He's never given my husband a dime in his life, never paid child support and is a loser IMO. Basically my husband wants him on there because seeing "father unknown" on it really bothers him and always has. His father thinks it's all about money and that it's about inheritance and stuff like that and his stepmother and his dad's other family are angry about this. I'm confused. Why would they be upset? Granted his stepmother always resented him. My husband is basically going to write him off, he is very hurt and upset. What would you do?

First it serves no purpose to add him at this time, and since he was never a actual father, really blank is more realistic.

As for inheriting, he merely would have to prove he is his son at probate court to have a claim anyway.

Thank you for your response and your right, sort of. I agree that he was not father for him while growing up and never gave him anything. But in the last few years they have gotten really close, he was even the best man at our wedding last summer... so he didn't think it would have been a big deal, but obviously it was. Oh well.
