Texas - Can landlord force me to move out to do remodeling?
Hello. I have been renting a house in Texas for about 7 years. The owner sold the house to a real estate investment firm. The agent for the firm is asking me to leave for 4 weeks while they do remodeling, but I can return afterwards. This means I would have to move everything out, store it, move it back in. Also, I have to pay for a hotel room for my family of four.

Can he force us to leave? What if we say no? With the previous owner, we were on a month to month lease.

    Thank you.

Yes, he can give you a 30 day notice. If you don't leave at the end of that hime he can evict you.

That's why having a lease can be handy.

But if he wants you as a tenant, you should ask that he pay your expenses of moving, as well as for alternate accommodations. If he won't pay most or all of this, I would consider moving permanently.

If he wants you out temp, he can pay for your entire move and pay for you to stay at some temp living, ( minus the cost of your normal rent)

He can evict you if you don't have a lease, but you just move to some other home and don't come back.

Also after major remodel, if you don't have a lease, expect the rent to be much higher.
