I have labs drawn every 3 months due to health conditions. I am a 32 y/o female. I have a history of asthma, GERD, high cholesterol, allergies, restless leg, anxiety, and sinus tachycardia. I have been on oral steroids off and on this year which caused the sinus tach and now I am on low dose b/p meds. My creatinine has been running 1.1 off and on this year. This past week, my BUN was 5.0 and my non-fasting glucose was 68. My MD says to drink more fluid. Due to all of the medications I take, I am a little concerned. I currently take Protonix, Theophylline, Celexa, Buspar, Mevacor, Advair, Singulair, Allegra, Mirapex, Cardizem, Multi-vitamin, and OTC potassium. Should I be concerned?

Creatinine levels are affected by all kinds of things.

If the person has a feverish illness, this will cause it to rise.

Diabetes also blood pressure can do the same.

On it's own a single creatinine test does not really give much useful information, it's far better to have a few other tests done at the same time : urine for example together with x-rays,scans and sometimes even biopsies of the kidneys.

You are having BUN tests which is good, and also normal to have done coupled with the creatinine test,which will give much more accurate information.

The fact that you have various health conditions and take many medications, is why your doctor suggests you have these tests on a regular basis,it is to be sure that your kidneys are working for you correctly.
Should there be a problem, then it would be detected early and corrected.

You take such a lot of medication that your doctor has told you to drink more fluid,this is to be sure that the kidneys can cope and flush them more easily through the system- this is very important, so be sure to take your doctors advice.

You are having all of the correct tests done on a regular basis,which your doctor will be aware of.If he/ she thought there was a problem then you would have been told.

Is your otc potassium physician prescribed?

Yes. I had a low potassium level in September (3.1). Md told me to buy potassium at walmart.
