    Kennel Cough Questions?
I have read that a dog is still distributing the Kennel Cough Bacteria for several weeks after symptoms are gone. My dog had KC and has finished 10 days of antibiotics. Is she still capable of sickening another dog who might visit the household?

Kennel Cough is usually only transmitted through bodily fluids and tends not to last long on clothes or surfaces (the virus dies quickly).

Once the dog has stopped showing signs of KC (no coughing or runny nose etc) then you should be safe. You can wait a few more days just to ease your own conscious but it is not like parvo that actually stays on surfaces for long periods.

I would be careful for a week or so.

In some cases, animals may remain infectious for long periods even after the symptoms have cleared up.

Since there are so many different strains, there is a chance of reinfection to another dog, a week is a safe bet.

I am dog-sitting my mother's dog. He is a standard poodle. He went to the groomer's at PetSmart about 5 days ago. Early this morning he started coughing from 3 am until 8 am. Poor thing I felt terrible. I messaged my mom about it, she said he had coughed a few times before, (several days after...
