Gas Insert Pilot Light Won't Light

I have a Quadrafire gas insert fireplace, but the pilot won't light or stay lit. I can see the spark when I press the igniter, so at least I know that part's working... What could be wrong and how can it be repaired?

I have the same problem as the person who asked about getting their wall heater to light. The answer was to make sure the flame was touching the thermocouple.. . But how do you do that? I can't make the flame higher, so do I move the thermocouple lower and what does a thermocouple look like...
