Favicons are normal size with small graphic in center
Switching over from XP 32 bit PC, to Win7 64 bit PC.

Setting up my new Win7 desktop to contain all the same shortcuts as my XP machine.

    On the Win7 PC:

Icons for shortcuts to programs look normal.

Favicons to websites have the same size icon, but the graphic is very small in the center of a normal size white square icon.

On the XP machine, all the Favicons graphics fill the icon. There is no white space or small graphic in the icon.

The Icon size is the same on both machines (medium).

I tried creating shortcuts using both IE and Firefox. No difference in size. But Firefox gave me more generic icons than IE did. Same issue with XP. Never did understand why some Favicons won't shortcut to desktop.

These "micro-graphic" Favicons on the Win7 PC look awful and are difficult to identify. Any solution to this problem?

(I hope this made sense. Difficult to describe)

    Thanks...

Win7 displays desktop icons very differently, in fact they do tend to be some what enlarged.

How to resolve, honestly, live with it.
You could try mucking about with icon sizing etc, but more likely to be a complete PITA..

Well, at least I can take comfort in knowing I didn't set it up incorrectly.

The weird thing is, the Icons are normal size, and the graphics are normal looking (XP-ish) on shortcuts to programs. But the shortcuts to web sites are the only ones with the normal size icon, and "micro-graphic" inside it. This doesn't make sense to me.

    Basically it's concerned with scaling.
Some icons resize correctly while others don't.

I wonder what the Favicon graphic would look like if I changed it to a downloaded icon.

    Problem Solved:

If a larger icon is downloaded (48x48), the "Change Icon" feature can be used. This gives a perfect full size icon to replace the micro-Favicon.

Also, a cool site to convert an image into an .ico icon of any size. It is fast, free, and does a great job. It support JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP and TIF file formats for uploading.
